A traveller came to us last month with a fare ₹9,000 below our quote and asked us to match it. We did not. Here is what that ₹9,000 was actually buying.
The connection could not survive anything
Fifty-five minutes at Frankfurt, with a terminal change and a passport control queue in between. The airline's published minimum connection time technically permits it. Anyone who has actually made that transfer knows what it means: if the inbound is fifteen minutes late, you are rebooking.
We look at the actual terminals, the actual transfer, and whether the inbound flight has a history of arriving late. A connection is not viable because a booking engine allows it.
No checked baggage
The fare included cabin only. Adding 23kg at the airport cost more than adding it at booking, and considerably more than the fare difference. This is the single most common gap between a headline fare and the real one.
No change permission at all
Not "change for a fee" — no change permitted. On a trip whose dates depended on a visa that had not yet been granted, that is not a discount. That is a bet.
Seat selection charged separately
On a nine-hour overnight sector, two travellers wanting to sit together paid for it. Add the four segments and it approached ₹6,000.

The cheaper fare was ₹4,000 more expensive and carried materially more risk. As it happened, that routing was disrupted the week he travelled.
How to read a fare properly
- Add baggage for everyone travelling, at booking prices, not airport prices.
- Add seat selection if sitting together matters to you.
- Check the connection against the actual terminal layout, not the minimum.
- Read what a date change costs — and whether it is permitted at all.
- Compare the totals. Only then decide.
Sometimes the cheap fare genuinely is cheapest, and we will tell you when it is. The point is to know which one you are looking at.
